Our History

Family-Owned Farm Business Since 1965

Generation to Generation

In 1965, Ronald and Margaret Pray purchased a two story house on Route 3 in Plattsburgh, which they converted into a farm stand, with a retail store downstairs and cold food storage upstairs. They sold beautiful, fresh local produce grown by brothers Ronald and Raymond Pray at Raymond’s farm in Keeseville. This farm, the Pray’s Family Farm, was purchased by Ronald in 1985.

Ronald began loading his produce truck three times a week, making journeys to the Captial District Regional Market in Albany, NY. He brought fresh produce down for wholesale out the back of his pickup in the open air market, and bought food products to bring back to sell at his own farm stand.

As they knocked down walls to make way for additions to their business, Ronald and Margaret also became parents to four sons – Blair, Randy, Darcey, and Regan – who grew up around the farm stand. As their sons grew, so did their business. They replaced the two story house with the larger retail building that stands there today. Many additions were made, including greenhouses, a bakery, and a wholesale facility. They expanded their wholesale facility at the Capital District Regional Farmers Market in Albany. Their family farm in Keeseville NY was also increased from about 100 acres to 150 acres of crop growing land.

Today, Ron and Margaret’s four sons all have families of their own that have grown up working in the family business. Many of them are still employed at one of the three Pray’s locations in Plattsburgh, Keeseville and Albany NY.
